In February 1932 two couples performed a Schuhplattler dance at a masquerade party hosted by the Steuben Societies of White Plains.
The entertainment was enthusiastically accepted. One of the dancers, Franz Stein, who was an emigrant from Bavaria and a member of the Gebirgs Tracht Erhaltungs Verein Chiemgauer Grabenstatt in his hometown of Grabenstatt, Bavaria decided to form a schuhplattler club in Westchester County in order to carry on the traditions of his homeland. Thus, Bavarian Club Edelweiss Westchester was born.
