Our Club History

December of 1932, Franz Stein proposed to several young men the possibility of starting a Schuhplattler group for the purpose of continuing the traditions and dancing of their native country in their new homeland. To realize this, Franz assumed its leadership; he trained dancers, secured traditional tracht, and made all the preparation necessary to establish a dance group.

At a meeting called by him in 1933, the following persons were present:

Franz Stein...John Huber...Fritz Schonbruner...Philip Dusch
Hans Meier...Herman Steyerer...Rosina Weiss...Fanny Weiss…
Dora Fritz…Marie Heimerer...Thekla Mossburner...and Martin Gerhard

They agreed to devote themselves to the continuation of tradition, and, under the name ‘Schuhplattler Group Edelweiss’, to perform for the entertainment of the public. After one year, the group decided to change to ‘Club Edelweiss’  to allow for people of various interests to join as ‘social’ members. We welcome new friends in the spirit of our founder.
